Hawley Promotes Read Across America
Assemblyman touts celebration of literature
Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R, I, C – Batavia) is encouraging local children to participate in the National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America celebration on March 2, the birthday of children’s author Dr. Seuss. Hawley, who will read to Mrs. Shuskey’s 2nd grade class at John F. Kennedy Elementary School at 1 p.m. on Friday, is touting the national event as a great excuse to dive into a good book.
“Read Across America encourages children to expand their horizons and grow through the world of literature, and instills a love of reading in our future leaders at a young age,” said Hawley. “Based on the overwhelming participation in the Summer Reading Challenge I sponsored last year, I know that kids in our community love to read. I hope to see many noses stuck in some great books this Friday!”
NEA's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2. The program also provides NEA members, parents, caregivers, and children the resources and activities they need to keep reading on the calendar 365 days a year.
