Huntington, NY – New York State Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie and Assemblymember Steve Stern are proud to announce that Northwell Health will receive a $1 million grant from New York State to assist with the construction of a new state-of-the-art Dolan Family Health Center in the heart of Huntington Station.

“The Dolan Family Health Center provides essential health care services to underserved residents of the Huntington community,” Assemblymember Stern said. “Continuity of care is stressed, including maternal health, pediatrics and specialty care that is often out of reach for too many. This critical funding will enable the Dolan Center to expand its services, re-locate to a central location that is accessible for those without cars, and substantially impact the revitalization of Huntington Station. I thank Speaker Heastie for his unwavering dedication to our community and thank Northwell Health, the Dolan Center and our local community advocates who work so hard to ensure its success.”

The announcement was made as part of Speaker Heastie’s annual statewide tour and fourth consecutive visit to Assemblymember Stern’s district. Last year, Speaker Heastie participated in a walking tour of Huntington Station to see firsthand the progress that has been made in revitalizing the community. Following that visit, the Speaker was instrumental in helping secure $22 million in the state budget to construct sewers in Huntington Station. The new health center is another important component of this ongoing community revitalization.

“Every year this statewide tour allows me to see firsthand the investments the Assembly has made and the real impacts they have on these communities,” said Speaker Heastie. “Assemblymember Stern is a fierce advocate for his constituents, and I am proud to be here today to join him in announcing this new investment and support his efforts to revitalize Huntington Station.”

The Dolan Center provides high quality comprehensive health care to one of Suffolk County’s most medically underserved communities. Since its creation in 1995, the clinic has cultivated a close personal relationship with local area residents by constantly adapting to reflect their changing needs and respecting their cultural diversity. Relocating the Center will not only increase clinical space but also provide a more convenient location in the heart of the community it serves.

“At Northwell Health we recognize the need to bring healthcare to where the patient is, which is why we are moving the Dolan Family Health Center to a more centralized location,” said Michael Dowling, President and CEO of Northwell Health. “The Dolan Center provides comprehensive medical care for thousands of men, women and children each year and this grant will help us continue our mission. “The exceptional care at the Dolan Center is provided by a team of board-certified physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and other health professionals who are assisted by a friendly, knowledgeable support staff, said Nick Fitterman, MD, Executive Director of Huntington Hospital. “This new location will increase the capacity to provide clinical care to the community and make it more accessible by virtue of the public transportation this building is aligned with. The care delivered at the Dolan Center has been recognized for superior quality by regulatory bodies such as the Joint Commission and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). We can’t thank Assembly Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Stern enough for this grant.”

The clinic, which generated nearly 30,000 provider visits in 2020, is focused on preventative care and wellness. In addition to primary diagnostic and treatment services, the Center also provides a host of pro-bono specialty clinics, prenatal care, WIC and behavioral health services. This relocation, which would be on a public transit bus line, will make the Center more accessible to the vulnerable population it serves as the nearest health facility providing similar services is more than 13 miles away.

Heastie and Assemblymember Steve Stern, will enable the Center to expand its services to our most vulnerable. We are very grateful for their support.”
