Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli secured $50,000 in CCAP funding for the Cecile Center. The funding was used to renovate the second floor of the center and included new flooring, lighting and windows.

On Friday, March 2, 2007, Assemblyman Magnarelli, Mayor Matthew Driscoll, Syracuse Parks Commissioner Patrick Driscoll, members of the Cecile family, seniors and community members were at the center to celebrate the opening of the second floor.

“The Cecile Center is a great asset to the community,” Assemblyman Magnarelli said. “The renovation of the second floor allows more space for senior activities, such as line dancing and fitness programs. It will also provide an opportunity for more space for the youth and the community groups that utilize the center. I am pleased that this funding went towards a facility that offers so much for its community.”

Mayor Matthew J. Driscoll said, “After operating on one floor for 15 years, the improvements have transformed the capabilities of the Center by opening up its second floor for activities. This new facility space will enhance and enrich the multipurpose use of this building for the public. The renovation has been a long time coming and thanks to Assemblyman Magnarelli will be enjoyed starting today.”

Patrick Driscoll, the Syracuse Department of Parks Commissioner, also attended the ribbon cutting and said, “Assemblyman Magnarelli has been very supportive for the many programs that the city offers to seniors and the entire community as a whole.”

The Bob Cecile Center, located at 174 W. Seneca Turnpike, serves the community of Syracuse. The building was once a firehouse, and now serves as a center for elderly during the day. It is also used by community groups, including the City of Syracuse Department of Community Development to host meetings, and for Little Leagues and football registration.
