"I met with a number of kinship caregivers, and it clearly was an issue of concern in terms of their awareness of what kind of support there is available, so we have to continue to reach out and offer that, especially some financial support, which is an issue, especially in some counties that are not providing that kind of support," said Assemblymember Ellen Jaffee, Chair of the Assembly Committee on Children and Families, during an exchange with Laura Velez, Deputy Commissioner of Children Welfare and Community Services at the Office of Children and Families, at a public hearing held to examine the impact of the state budget on supports for foster parents and caretakers of children removed from their homes.
