NYS Assemblywoman Alicia L. Hyndman Celebrates Completion of Accessibility Improvements at St. Albans LIRR Station
Queens, NY – NYS Assemblywoman Alicia L. Hyndman joined Long Island Rail Road President Rob Free and MTA Construction & Development President Jamie Torres-Springer to mark the completion of major accessibility upgrades at the St. Albans LIRR Station. The event, held at the station entrances on Linden Blvd and Newburg Street and Baisley Blvd and Montauk Street, highlighted long-awaited improvements that will make the station safer and more accessible for the St. Albans community.
The project includes several key upgrades:
- A new enclosed elevator tower and ADA-compliant elevator connecting street and platform levels,
- A reconstructed pedestrian tunnel with increased height clearance,
- A continuous ADA-accessible sidewalk between Linden Blvd and Baisley Blvd,
- ADA-designated parking near the new elevator, and
- Updated handrails, guardrails, and stair treads for enhanced safety.
Assemblywoman Hyndman emphasized the importance of the project for residents who rely on safe and equitable transportation access.
“I am glad to see the St. Albans Station Accessibility Improvement Project completed. The new elevator, pedestrian tunnel, sidewalks, and safety upgrades will make it easier for everyone in the community to get around. Making sure all New Yorkers can travel safely and independently is so important, and projects like this show the real difference that smart, thoughtful investments in our transit system can make.”
