NYS Assemblywoman Alicia L. Hyndman Hosts Student Government Leaders from District 29 Schools

Queens, NY – NYS Assemblywoman Alicia L. Hyndman welcomed student government representatives from PS 138, PS 195, and PS/IS 208Q to her District Office for engaging and educational luncheons focused on civic engagement, leadership, and public service.

The visit, part of Assemblywoman Hyndman’s ongoing effort to inspire youth participation in government, provided students with an inside look at how state government impacts their schools and communities.

The program began with a warm welcome from Assemblywoman Hyndman, who shared insights into her role as a state legislator and emphasized the importance of civic leadership at every age. Students participated in two interactive icebreakers – “One Word That Describes a Good Leader” and “If I Were in Charge for a Day…” – to explore qualities of leadership and discuss ideas to improve their schools and neighborhoods.

“Engaging our young people early in civic conversations helps shape the next generation of thoughtful, community-minded leaders,” said Assemblywoman Hyndman. “I am so proud of these students for sharing their ideas, asking questions, and thinking deeply about how they can make a difference.”

During lunch, students had the opportunity to continue their discussions with the Assemblywoman, connecting their ideas to real-world policymaking and community improvement. The visit concluded with group photos, words of encouragement, and giveaways to commemorate the experience.

This event is part of Assemblywoman Hyndman’s continued commitment to promoting civic education, leadership development, and community engagement among youth in Southeast Queens.
