Assemblywoman Alicia L. Hyndman and Queens District Attorney’s Office Host Senior Movie Day Featuring the Six Triple Eight
Jamaica, NY – Assemblywoman Alicia L. Hyndman (D–Southeast Queens), in partnership with the Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, hosted a special Senior Movie Day at the Black Spectrum Theatre to celebrate local seniors and honor women’s contributions to American history.
The afternoon featured a screening of The Six Triple Eight, the remarkable story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion – the only all-Black, all-women unit to serve overseas during World War II. The film highlights their resilience, courage, and service in the face of discrimination and adversity.
“It was truly inspiring to share this story with our seniors,” said Assemblywoman Hyndman. “The Six Triple Eight reminds us of the power of unity, determination, and service – values that define both our community and these extraordinary women.”
In addition to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, Assemblywoman Hyndman recognized Healthfirst, Oak Street Health, Responsible Home Care, and Black Spectrum Theatre as valued partners in making the day possible. Together, they helped create a welcoming space for seniors to connect, learn, and enjoy a meaningful cultural experience.
Assemblywoman Hyndman continues to host community programs that uplift Southeast Queens seniors, providing opportunities for engagement, enrichment, and fellowship.
