Governor Cuomo Signs Assemblyman Fall Trampoline Park Bill into Law

Late last week, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed Assemblyman Charles D. Fall’s (D-Richmond) legislation (A.7250-B) (Chapter .720) that will regulate safety procedures and strengthen guidelines for the commercial trampoline park industry in New York State.

The legislation was inspired by a Consumer Product Safety Commission report showing a nationwide increase of injuries to consumers. According to the (CPSC) report there has been a major spike in injuries associated with trampoline parks, nationwide. In 2013 there were an estimated 2,500 reported injuries, 6,200 in 2014, 9,100 in 2015, 11,300 in 2016 and an astounding 17,800 in 2017.

In the last few years, emergency room visits associated with injuries at trampoline parks have skyrocketed. According to the report, the numbers have shot up from 2,500 in 2013 to almost 18,000 in 2017.

The new law will require an updated compliance with national industry standards, trampoline park employee training, reporting of injuries and an emergency response plan.

“As a member of the New York State Assembly Consumer Protection Committee and Chair of the Consumer Fraud Protection Sub-Committee, the full intent of my legislation is to protect and give assurances to parents and their children that use these recreational facilities throughout New York State.
