Assemblymember Lavine Condemns New York American Water

Glen Cove, New York – On June 29, 2018 the Public Service Commission (PSC) released the “Staff Report Into Causes of New York American Water’s Property Tax Expense Error, and Reasons for Untimely Reporting to the Department of Public Service and the Commission”. This report establishes the reason for the PSC’s approval of NYAW’s rate increase was based on known false information.

“New York American Water committed fraud, and this wrongdoing should be rectified,” said Assemblymember Lavine, Chair, Election Law Committee. "As a community leader, I am outraged that such negligence could occur at one of our utility companies. Our residents should not suffer because of the corporate greed and questionable practices of New York American Water.”

On July 8, 2018, Assemblymember Lavine wrote to John Rhodes, Chair of the PSC, to express his concerns regarding NYAW. It is Assemblymember Lavine’s hope that Mr. Rhodes and the PSC as a whole adopt the investigation’s findings and recommendations in full.

Subsequently, Assemblymember Lavine has sent a letter to Attorney General Barbara Underwood calling for the Attorney General’s Office to immediately begin an investigation of NYAW.
