Assemblymember Lavine Issues Statement after Attending Surrogates Association Conference

New Paltz, New York – Assemblymember Charles Lavine (D-Glen Cove) issued the following statement after attending the New York State Surrogates Association’s fall meeting at Mohonk Mountain House, outside New Paltz, New York:

One of the benefits of being Chair of the Assembly Judiciary Committee is getting to meet and learn from extraordinary people. I was very honored to be invited to address the Surrogates Association of the State of New York at Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz on November 4, 2021.We spoke about some of the legislative issues that will be considered in the upcoming session including my bill, the “New York State Judicial Security Act,” that will make home addresses of judges and their families confidential and will increase punishments for threats and crimes against judges. On July 19, 2020, a misfit “antifeminist” lawyer who should never have been allowed anywhere near a gun broke into the home of United States District Judge Esther Salas and shot her husband and her son.Her son Daniel was killed and her husband severely wounded. This bill is my priority for the 2022 legislative session.
