Assemblymembers Ra, Durso & Gandolfo Back IBEW Local 1049 Workers Amid Contract Talks
Ranking Minority member on the Assembly Ways and Means Committee Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square), Assemblyman Michael Durso (R-Massapequa Park) and Assemblyman Jarett Gandolfo (R,C-Sayville) issued the following statement in support of IBEW Local 1049 workers as they rallied this morning on Long Island amid ongoing contract negotiations with National Grid:
“The men and women of IBEW Local 1049 keep the lights on, and even more, they keep Long Island running by maintaining our power plants and gas lines, ensuring safe and reliable service for families and businesses across our region. They deserve a fair contract that recognizes their diligence by providing financial security and keeping pace with the rising cost of living. I urge both sides to reach an agreement that respects the sacrifices these workers make every day to serve our communities and ensures stability for workers, their families and the residents who depend on their services.”
Negotiations between IBEW Local 1049 and National Grid have been extended as both parties work toward a resolution on key issues, including wages, health care and retirement benefits.
