Statement from Assembly Minority Leader Ed Ra on the 25th Anniversary of the 9/11 Attacks
“Twenty-five years ago, our lives were forever changed. On Sept. 11, 2001, our nation endured unimaginable tragedy, heartbreak and destruction. Yet, during one of our nation’s darkest times, we also witnessed profound unity, bravery, extraordinary courage and an outpouring of love for each other and for our country.
That day changed the lives of nearly 3,000 families who lost a brother, sister, mother, father, spouse, friend or neighbor. No amount of time will erase the pain of that lost or the void left behind. Twenty-five years later, we stand with you in honoring the memory of loved ones. We also lend our unwavering support to those battling serious illness and injuries sustained that day. Their lives, and the love that remains, will never be forgotten.
We also honor the first responders who answered the call that day and, in the days, weeks and years that followed to protect others and prevent further loss of life. You are heroes. We will forever be grateful for your immeasurable courage and unwavering commitment to protecting others.
Our promise is renewed this year, as it has been in years past and will be in perpetuity: “We will never forget.” May God bless the families who continue to carry these losses, may God bless New York and may God bless the United States of America.”
