Ra, Colleagues Unveil Petition Promoting Gold Star Scholarship Bill

After the Assembly Majority leaders blocked a bipartisan bill to help the children of fallen active duty service members afford college tuition, Assemblyman Ed Ra (R,C,I-Franklin Square) and his Assembly Minority colleagues are encouraging New Yorkers who stand with our troops to sign their petition demanding the Majority bring the bill to the floor.

“This is the right thing to do, period. It’s not partisan. It’s not complicated. Our fallen heroes made unconditional sacrifices for all of us. Having arbitrary conditions attached to a scholarship program for their children is, frankly, ridiculous,” said Ra. “I’m proud to join my colleagues in support of this legislation, and I’m encouraging my friends and neighbors to sign this petition and stand with real American heroes.”

After relentless advocacy by Ra and his colleagues, Gov. Cuomo said he would support the bill.

“We need your support. Let’s send a message-New Yorkers stand with our troops,” said Ra.
