Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz’ depleted uranium bill caught the attention of the Assembly Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. To learn more about depleted uranium, the committee has decided to hold a roundtable in New York City on Thursday, April 27th 2006.

Assemblyman Dinowitz and many supporters of the bill held a press conference in Albany recently that drew positive attention from both the Assembly and Senate. The bill now has a Senate sponsor, Senator Morahan, and the Veterans’ Affairs Committee is devoting its attention to the intent of the legislation by holding a roundtable with the Assembly Committee on Health. The focus of the roundtable will be on the possible health affects of exposure to depleted uranium on soldiers returning from Iraq and other sites in the Persian Gulf Region.

Assemblyman Dinowitz said, “It’s my hope that this roundtable will reinforce the need to enact this bill into law. It’s critical for the health of our soldiers that New York State ensures they get the best screening and treatment for exposure to hazardous materials, particularly depleted uranium (DU). This bill would be a step in the right direction of providing the best treatment for the soldiers we asked to go abroad and fight for us.”
