Statement from Assemblyman Dinowitz on the Boy Scouts of America Allowing Openly Gay Leaders
July 28, 2015
Bronx, NY – “I was pleased to hear that the Boy Scouts of America have lifted their ban on openly gay adult leaders, as well as on all paid jobs within the organization. In this day and age, discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is simply not acceptable, and this is a promising step forward in the fight for full nationwide equality for members of the LGBT community. Allowing gay adults, many of whom are parents of Boy Scouts, to serve as leaders in the Boy Scouts of America opens the door for them to participate in one of America’s most treasured traditions. Though I am dismayed that the organization’s decision excludes certain religious organizations, this is still a big step forward.”
