Statement Regarding Governor’s Declaration of MTA State of Emergency, $1 Billion in Emergency Funding for Transit Crisis
June 29, 2017
Bronx, N.Y. — Now that the escalating problems in our subway systems have grown to crisis proportions and after strong pressure by mass transit advocates as well as legislators, the Governor is proposing a number of steps to address this growing emergency including declaring a state of emergency allocating $1 billion dollars in emergency funding for the MTA. I applaud the Governor for taking these initial steps in what is a down payment of what is actually needed to turn around our neglected subways and reform the MTA. We must remain persistent and continue to aggressively address this problem and to address the problems with the MTA as whole.
