To Assist Local Businesses, Assemblyman Dinowitz Changes Parking Rules
Bronx, NY – Assemblyman Dinowitz is pleased to inform his constituents that after requesting that the Department of Transportation change the parking meter rules at Manhattan College Parkway and Post Road near Burger King and the end of the 1 train, the Department of Transportation (DOT) changed the maximum parking time from 12 hour to 4 hours.
In an effort to increase turnover and aid the local businesses on Broadway, Assemblyman Dinowitz asked DOT to review the meter rules at the parking spaces between the Broadway Burger King and the 242nd Street 1 Train Station. Previously, meter rules at about 26 parking spaces stated that cars could be parked for as long as 12 hours for 8 dollars. It was clear that commuters, likely from outside the city, were using the area to leave their cars parked over the course of the day. This prevented people who wished to frequent businesses along Broadway from finding accessible parking nearby.
“There were 26 parking spaces where a person could park for 12 hours for only 8 dollars. That was a steal and is far better than parking at a garage. When I visited the location, I noticed cars that remained parked there throughout the day, so I doubted many of my constituents were benefitting from these spaces, and businesses certainly weren’t. After speaking with people, including local residents and Broadway business owners, I asked that DOT change the meter rules and shorten the length of time that cars could park there to prevent commuters from taking parking away from those who wished to frequent local businesses. I would like to thank the Department of Transportation for being so responsive and putting the community first on this issue,” said Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz
