Assemblyman Dinowitz Applauds DOT for Responding to his Request: Repair of Knolls Crescent/Kappock Street Steps

Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz is pleased at the response of the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) to his recent request.

Upon being contacted by several of his constituents, the Assemblyman contacted the DOT regarding an issue of local importance. The step street that connects Knolls Crescent to Kappock Street had been in serious need of repair. Several individual steps were in shambles, causing a major trip hazard for the local residents.

A DOT crew was on site recently cementing over cracks and holes in the steps and evening out some steps that required leveling. While this may not be the ultimate solution to this problem, the stairway is definitely safer to walk along.

The Assemblyman is now concerned that whatever made these problems emerge in the first place may resurface at some point. He has requested that DOT take a serious look at this issue and include the overhaul of this step street as a Capital Project in the DOT's budget.

"I am pleased that DOT has been cooperative regarding this issue. This step street had been a terrible danger for the many local residents who use it daily. While the recent repairs are certainly a ‘step’ in the right direction, it is important that DOT does a total rehabilitation of this step street as part of the City's Capital Budget," said Dinowitz.
