Assemblyman Josh Jensen (R,C,I-Greece) announced that two local businesses from the 134th District have been added to the NYS Historic Business Preservation Registry. Jensen successfully nominated VanPutte Gardens and Jackson’s Bakery both of which are staples of the community in the town of Greece.
This program, administered by the Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation, recognizes businesses that have been in business for at least 50 years and have contributed to the community’s history. The program also provides educational and promotional assistance to ensure continued success by recognizing their significance to the community and eligibility for tax credits, including state and federal commercial historic rehabilitation tax credits.
“I am pleased to announce both businesses have been added to the Historic Business Preservation Registry where they can continue to thrive for many more years to come. As a lifelong resident of the town of Greece, my family and many others across our community, have long relied on Jackson’s Bakery and VanPutte Gardens for their bakery and garden center needs. I am honored to nominate these exceptional businesses and help celebrate their historic impact to the community I call home,” said Jensen.
“The VanPutte family is beyond honored to have been added to the Historic Business Preservation Registry. This designation makes us proud,” said Kyle VanPutte, president of VanPutte Gardens. “Not only for the hard work our family and employees have put in, but we’re also proud of the Greece community as a whole for their continued support of the VanPutte brand over the past 74 years. I would like to give a special thank you to our great Assemblyman, Josh Jensen, for nominating VanPutte Gardens,” VanPutte added.
“Jackson’s has always been known for its baked goods. We cannot forget the lineage of great bakeries and the few still remaining. Preserving the tradition of baking will be carried out at Jackson’s Bakery,” said Matt Belk, owner of Jackson's Bakery.
