Jensen Calls for Transparency on Health Care Reform
In response to recent reporting on preliminary ideas from the Commission on the Future of Health Care, Assemblyman Josh Jensen (R,C-Greece), the ranking Minority member of the Assembly Health Committee, is urging Gov. Kathy Hochul and the Department of Health to fully release the recommendations developed by the Commission on the Future of Health Care before any legislative or executive action is taken.
This call comes in response to a recent Times Union article previewing select ideas from the commission’s ongoing work. The article, citing anonymous sources, outlines possible reforms under consideration but without providing the full scope of the commission’s findings or supporting data.
“New Yorkers deserve transparency,” said Jensen. “If this commission was formed to help shape the future of health care in New York, then its recommendations must be made available in full so the public and the Legislature can evaluate them thoughtfully and fairly.”
The Commission on the Future of Health Care was launched by Gov. Hochul in 2023 to examine long-term reforms to the state’s health care infrastructure, especially in light of persistent workforce shortages and care access disparities across rural and underserved communities.
“We need bipartisan cooperation to ensure any changes are patient-centered, practical and accountable,” said Jensen. “This isn’t just about policy — this is about people’s lives. We need to have an open, collaborative process that includes all voices, not just political insiders.”
