Assemblyman Josh Jensen Supports Senate and Assembly Colleagues’ Introduction of the Protect Act

Yesterday, Assemblyman Josh Jensen (R,C-Greece) expressed his support for his Senate and Assembly colleagues advocating for the PROTECT Act. The bill would provide judges with a risk assessment tool to better determine whether an individual should be released or held in custody before trial. It also allows courts to consider public safety when making bail or detention decisions, rather than relying solely on a limited list of qualifying offenses.

“This legislation gives judges the tools they need to do their jobs effectively and protect the people they serve. By restoring the ability to consider public safety and risk, we can hold dangerous individuals accountable and ensure that pretrial decisions are driven by what is best for our communities, not politics or strict guidelines, which tie judges’ hands in certain situations,” Jensen said.
