Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C-Deerpark) and Assemblyman Brian Maher (R,C-Walden) are joining forces to push for a better allotment of funding and compensation for local district attorney offices during state budget negotiations. After hearing the concerns of Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler, Brabenec and Maher understand that the governor’s initial proposal for DA office funding in both Orange County and statewide may fall short and needs to be reconsidered.

“Our district attorneys have considerable involvement in all facets of law enforcement and public safety, so I am of course in favor of fairly funding and compensating them for the work they do for our community. In support of DA David Hoovler, I will join in his calls for that proper compensation,” Brabenec said. “As we continue the fight for the return of public safety in our communities, cooperation and partnership with local district attorneys is an integral relationship we as a state government must continue to nurture. I'm hoping my colleagues will share this sentiment as we begin budget negotiations this year.”

“The work within our district attorneys’ offices have increased substantially in recent years. They also remain vital to ensuring victims see justice, criminals are held accountable, and defendants who have a use disorder are processed in treatment courts to provide them with the unique help they need,” said Maher. “It is clear our county prosecutor’s office not only deserves but needs bolstered funding to retain excellent staff and continue their outstanding service to our community.”
