Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C-Deerpark) is throwing his support behind Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus and Rockland County Executive Ed Day following an emergency declaration in the wake of news that New York City migrants will be shuttled up to the Hudson Valley. The move is seen as an effort to shift the burden of managing the enormous migrant population from New York City to more suburban areas. Brabenec is steadfast in his support for Neuhaus and Day as this issue continues to develop.

“Steve Neuhaus, Ed Day and all Orange and Rockland County residents should know I support them unequivocally and am ready to do whatever is asked of me to help manage this ongoing crisis,” Brabenec said. “Both Orange and Rockland counties have often been billed to pick up New York City’s slack, and it often comes at the detriment of our own counties as a result. The responsibility of solving the ever-growing migrant population falls to New York City and New York City alone – it is not a burden either county deserves to bear.”

“The immigration system is incredibly flawed, but it is not fixed by sending migrants to another area of this state equally unprepared for the management of it. I’m disappointed in Mayor Adams for taking this approach and remain ready to assist county leadership in the Hudson Valley as needed,” Brabenec concluded.
