Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,TCN-Deerpark) joined legislators, highway officials and construction workers from across the state at a rally today in Albany to call for a $150 million increase in the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS) and additional funding for the PAVE-NY program. These state programs are a main funding source for local governments to make routine road and highway repairs, but CHIPS funding has remained stagnant in recent state budgets.

“This is not only about ensuring our residents aren’t driving through droves of pot holes and ruts each day, but also supporting the dedicated and hard-working men and women who brave the elements and answer the call on short notice to keep our roads safe and reliable,” Brabenec said. “As a former town supervisor, I know firsthand how important infrastructure is to small towns and villages, and it is something that is experienced every day by a large portion of our constituents. It is well beyond time that the Hudson Valley receives its fair share instead of myriad resources going down to New York City.”
