The Assembly Majority One-House Budget Falls Short On Needed Reform
A Statement from Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,TCN-Deerpark) on the Assembly’s One-House Budget Resolution
March 15, 2017
“I am shocked and appalled at the number of free giveaways that the Assembly Majority included in this year’s budget resolution. Initiatives like the DREAM Act and Raise the Age are a slap in the face to legal taxpayers across our state, and I did not vote for this resolution for the following reasons:
- Violates 2% Tax Cap that all local governments have to follow;
- Over $7 billion in tax increases;
- No Uber/Lyft allowed in Upstate NY;
- Funding for illegal aliens, including the DREAM Act;
- Taxpayers will fund costs for SUNY/CUNY free college tuition;
- No property tax reform;
- Unfunded mandates on counties for early voting initiatives;
- Increased voter fraud due to online voter registration;
- 16- and 17-year-olds who commit felonies go to family court instead of criminal court;
- Marijuana decriminalized;
- SAFE Act gun control programs continue to be funded; and
- Deep cuts to economic development programs.”
