Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,TCN-Deerpark) is happy to announce the Assembly has passed a bill which he sponsored requiring fire departments, districts or companies to provide cancer disability benefit insurance programs to volunteer firefighters.

“Firefighters spend their lives protecting us, so it is important that we help them in any way we can,” said Brabenec. “As a longtime advocate for first responders, I am proud to sponsor this bill, which would help them get the care they deserve should the need arise. Firefighters aren’t afraid to run into a burning building or to rescue someone from other dangerous situations. They put the lives of others before their own, making them the bravest and strongest people I know. I am happy to help them in any way I can, which is why I am so glad we were able to get this bill passed before the end of session.”
