Brabenec Stands with Orange Officials to Fight the Opioid Epidemic

On Thursday December 20th, Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,TCN-Deerpark) stood with Orange County Legislators, Sheriff Dubois, members of Law Enforcement, and families of victims to demand that the New York State Legislature pass legislation to categorize fentanyl "analogues" as controlled substances

“This poison is killing our youth, and we need to make it easier for the Department of Health, and our partners in law enforcement to take it off our streets and punish the people responsible" said Brabenec. This is a public health crisis, and I plan to introduce or co-sponsor legislation in the Assembly to make sure that fentanyl, however modified, remains a controlled substance under the law"

Fentanyl is currently a Controlled substance under New York State Law, however illegal drug manufacturers can slightly modify the chemical composition to try and skirt the law, and make it harder for police and prosecutors to bring them to justice.
