Brabenec Reaffirms Opposition to Drivers Licenses for Illegal Aliens
As New York City politicians in the Assembly forge ahead with a plan to grant drivers licenses to illegal aliens in New York, Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C,I-Deerpark) has reaffirmed his stance against the proposal on a number of fronts.
I Love New York is becoming a slogan more closely revered by illegals, criminals and felons rather than law-abiding citizens, Brabenec said. First it was free college for illegal aliens, then it was free lawyers to help them evade deportation, now its drivers licenses. Whats next, the right to vote?
Brabenec was one of the first legislators against this proposal this year and appeared on Spectrum News in early February voicing his concerns. According to a March Siena Institute Research Poll, 61 percent of New Yorkers statewide oppose granting driving rights to undocumented individuals.
Above all else, this is a public safety concern. How can we be sure that someone who is already here illegally, breaking the law, will execute the responsibilities of owning a vehicle, like state required inspections, learning dozens of important traffic laws and obtaining car insurance, Brabenec continued. New York City politicians continue to swerve way outside the lines this year protecting criminals and illegals over law-abiding citizens.
