Brabenec Blasts Driver’s Licenses for Illegals Passed by Assembly Majority

A statement from Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C,I-Deerpark) on the Assembly Transportation Committee passing legislation to give driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants

“As I said this winter when this bill surfaced, affording the same privileges to those here illegally as to law-abiding citizens is as dangerous as it is insulting.

“Thanks to Assembly Majority, New York has become a bastion of rewarding criminals, prison inmates and illegal aliens, and has left behind the law-abiding middle class who pay taxes and play by the rules.

“The radical left in Albany has created shortcuts for those who besmirch society that include pay raises, IPads and early parole for convicted felons, and now taxpayer-funded lawyers and driver’s licenses for illegal aliens.

“Jamming through a highly-unpopular initiative like this to play political games with President Trump is disgraceful and does little to help average New Yorkers with the little time we have left in this year’s session.”

Brabenec was one of the first legislators against this proposal this year and appeared on Spectrum News in early February voicing his concerns. According to a March Siena Institute Research Poll, 61 percent of New Yorkers statewide oppose granting driving rights to undocumented individuals.
