Wigilia is a cherished Christmas season celebration in Poland and among Polish-American communities here in WNY. It was my pleasure to join the General Pulaski Association of WNY and the Hispanic Heritage Council of Western New York Inc. for this wonderful holiday tradition.

Thank you to the amazing kids at Cheektowaga Central Middle School for taking the time to show appreciation for our veterans by making them Valentine's Day cards. The cards were distributed to veterans throughout WNY and to servicemembers aboard the USS Leyte Gulf as they bravely serve our nation overseas.

I recently announced legislation to ensure indoor ice rinks maintain safe conditions by requiring air quality monitoring devices, inspections, and appropriate responses to high levels of carbon monoxide or nitrogen dioxide. I also announced legislation to enact a sales tax exemption on home fire safety products to increase awareness and affordability of these lifesaving devices.

It was an exciting day for Western New York! I joined Governor Kathy Hochul to raise the first steel beam for the new Buffalo Bills stadium.

It was my pleasure to join County Legislator Tim Meyers and Supervisor Benczkowski in sponsoring a hat and glove drive for kids in need at the Cheektowaga Boys & Girls Club.

The Girl Scouts of today are the voters and civic leaders of tomorrow. I had a wonderful time meeting with these awesome Scouts in Depew and teaching them about the importance of participating in our government.

Direct support professionals work tirelessly to care for the I/DD community and ensure they can live healthy, happy, and fulfilling lives. They deserve wages that are commensurate to their essential work. That’s why I stood with People, Inc. to advocate for wage enhancements and cost of living adjustments for hard-working DSPs.

To recognize the start of Fire Prevention Week, I announced $50,000 for U-Crest Fire District #4 to purchase an automatic CPR machine, new radios, and a Jaws of Life tool for extricating victims from auto wrecks. Thank you so much to the brave firefighters at U-Crest and beyond!

To recognize Ostomy Awareness Day, I met with Nikki Baker, a constituent who reached out and requested I sponsor a resolution to raise awareness of the nearly 1 million Americans with an ostomy. I'm glad to have passed this resolution, and I thank Nikki for her advocacy on this important issue.

Events like the Village of Depew Fall Fest support small businesses and bring our community together. That's why I'm so glad to have secured $10,000 to support Depew's vibrant community events.

Ahead of Veterans Day, I dropped by VFW Post 7275 in Lancaster to announce $29,550 in state funding that I helped approve in the budget, which will be used to construct a new patio on the rear of the property.

It was my pleasure to join my friend Assemblywoman Karen McMahon at the Chinese Club of Western New York’s Mid-Autumn Festival celebration to announce $25,000 for CCWNY.
The Chinese Club supports our region’s AAPI community and holds events like the Mid-Autumn festival, an over 3,000-year-old celebration to commemorate the fall harvest.

WNY Construction Career Days is a wonderful opportunity for local high school students to learn about well-paying and fulfilling career opportunities in the building trades.

I recognized Disability Employment Month by joining People, Inc. and NYSID to announce new grant funding to purchase equipment to expand employment for individuals with special needs at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

Western New Yorkers know how damaging and disruptive power outages can be. That's why I secured $125,000 for backup power sources at eight intersections in the Town of Lancaster to keep traffic lights on during outages. Thank you to Supervisor Ruffino and manufacturer Viridi Parente, Inc. for your work on this important project to protect our residents and strengthen our infrastructure.

WNY gave a warm welcome to New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie during his visit to Sloan. I joined him in announcing new funding to build disability-accessible park bathrooms and purchase new equipment for our local firefighters.

Happy India Day celebrations to our Indian-American communities here in Western New York! I was happy to join the celebrations and to help pass critical funding for AAPI organizations that serve these communities.

Assemblymember McMahon and I announced $25,000 for the Bangladeshi American Social & Cultural Organization of WNY at their annual BanglaFest. Organizations like BASCO work hard to provide critical services for our AAPI communities, which is why we passed funding to support these vital AAPI groups.

I recently stood with the Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper, the US Army Corps of Engineers, and my colleagues in government to announce an agreement on a feasibility study to restore portions of Scajaquada Creek in Cheektowaga. I’m proud to have worked alongside Senator Ryan to secure a portion of the funding that made this critical study possible.
