Today, Assemblymember Monica Wallace (D-Lancaster) announced that she secured $140,000 in state funding for the Village of Sloan, including resources for summer programming, improvements to Griffith Park, and equipment for the Sloan Active Hose Company No. 1. Of that total, $80,000 will provide for new sidewalks and resurfacing of tennis, basketball, and hockey courts in the village’s main park. Meanwhile, Sloan firefighters will receive $45,000 toward the purchase of new hoses, a thermal imager to help firefighters locate hot spots and potential victims, and a Jaws of Life tool, which is used to extricate crash victims from mangled automobile wrecks. The remaining $15,000 will support Sloan’s community events and summer concert series, ensuring the beloved tradition will continue in future years.

“I’m thrilled to announce new funding that will improve public amenities in the Village of Sloan, ensure the continuation of beloved summer programming, and help first responders save lives,” said Assemblymember Wallace. “The new sidewalks will keep pedestrians safe as they use the park, and the new firefighting equipment will help the members of the Sloan Active Hose Company do their lifesaving work effectively and safely. Sloan is an amazing community to visit and live in. These new amenities will make the village even more desirable, walkable, and safe for everyone.”

"The battery-operated Jaws of Life tools will ensure we can immediately extricate crash victims from a wrecked vehicle, and the thermal imagers allow us to find trapped individuals in structure fires and identify hot spots, which helps keep everyone safe and limit damage to property. The firefighters of the Sloan Active Hose Company thank Assemblymember Wallace for helping us purchase these valuable firefighting tools.”

Assemblymember Wallace has a demonstrated commitment to securing resources for public amenities in the Village of Sloan and for local fire departments. She has secured $125,000 for a splash pad and $5,000 for playground equipment in Sloan, as well as $350,000 to open the Cheektowaga Boys & Girls Club to expand recreation options for Sloan youth. She has also secured $75,000 for new equipment for the nearby Bellevue Fire Department, $125,000 for an emergency traffic signal at Southline Fire Department, and $250,000 for air tanks for the Depew Fire Department, among other funding allocations for local police and fire departments.
