Assemblymember Wallace: Dropping Standardized Testing Requirement Makes SUNY Admissions Fairer

“Numerous studies have found that standardized tests are not accurate predictors of academic performance, and worse, exacerbate inequities that harm lower-income applicants and students of color. In fact, standardized test scores are most strongly correlated with family income, as applicants with greater means have better access to tutors and test prep and attend better-funded schools. That's why I previously called on the SUNY board to scrap standardized testing requirements during COVID, and it's why I applaud the decision to do so permanently now. By moving toward a fairer admission process, SUNY will extend opportunities to countless gifted students who will succeed in higher education and beyond."
