Assemblymember Monica Wallace (D-Lancaster) recently joined South Line Fire Department Chief Andy Dayton to see new lifesaving equipment bought with state funds she secured.South Line used the $125,000 state grant to acquire self-contained breathing apparatuses, which are critical to protecting firefighters from smoke and harmful gases while responding to major fires.

“Our volunteer firefighters devote their time and risk their lives to protect the public. They deserve our full support and whatever equipment they need to keep them safe while they are responding to emergencies,” said Assemblymember Wallace. “I’m glad to have secured funding to provide this vital equipment, and I thank the members of South Line Fire Department for volunteering their time to protect and serve our neighbors.”

“Self-contained breathing apparatuses are absolutely vital equipment that keep our firefighters safe from smoke and harmful gases while they are responding to major fires or any other incidents that require the use of SCBAs,” said South Line Fire Department Chief Andy Dayton. “We thank Assemblymember Wallace for once again delivering state funding to ensure we have the tools we need to protect and serve the public.”

Since taking office, Assemblymember Wallace has secured significant funding to support volunteer firefighters and improve local parks. She has secured over $800,000 for local fire departments for equipment, such as breathing apparatus, emergency traffic signals, emergency medical equipment, an off-road vehicle, hoses, and technology, and she helped approved a $25 million capital fund for volunteer fire departments across the state. In 2018, she secured $150,000 in state funding to purchase an emergency traffic signal for South Line Fire Department to protect firefighters and motorists during emergency calls.
