Statement from Assemblywoman Rozic on OPWDD Funding Restoration
Assemblywoman Rozic issued the following statement announcing the passage of legislation to restore OPWDD funding:
“Today, I voted to keep a promise to restore funding crucial to the operation of programs that serve the developmentally disabled community. The need for these services is enormous, and there's no reason to penalize this community, their families, and their caretakers. I have stood with my community and colleagues in government throughout the legislative session to oppose cuts to the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), and that's something I will not stop fighting for.
“After working closely with advocates, like the Queens Center for Progress, we restored $90 million in cuts to OPWDD, in addition to the $30 million originally restored during the budget process. I will continue to work hard to make sure that developmentally disabled New Yorkers and their families continue to receive the services and programs they rely on to enrich their lives.”
