Burdett Birthing Center to Remain Open
Burdett Birthing Center Secures Funding for Five More Years
Assemblyman John McDonald (D-Cohoes), Assemblyman Scott Bendett (R,C-Sand Lake) and other Albany legislators are proud to announce the successful securing of five years of funding for the Burdett Birthing Center (BBC) from this year’s state budget. This victory comes after tireless efforts from residents and stakeholders who rallied together to ensure the continued operation of this vital facility.
The Burdett Birthing Center had been facing the looming threat of closure, posing significant challenges for families in Rensselaer County and beyond. With transportation and access to care identified as major hurdles, the closure of BBC would have left expecting families in a precarious position.
As the only birth center in Rensselaer County, serving patients across Columbia, Washington and Albany Counties, the BBC plays a crucial role in providing equitable access to essential medical services.
“This funding victory is a testament to the power of grassroots efforts and community resilience,” said Bendett. “While we celebrate this win, we must remain vigilant in our efforts to safeguard essential health care services for all residents.
As a father, I will always fight for health care decisions to be made between a woman and her doctor. Today’s announcement ensures that will remain the case.”
