South Queens Community Hosted One of the Largest Drives to Help Ukraine
South Queens, NY – Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-South Queens) rolled up her sleeves over the weekend with dozens of volunteers and worked to package and organize supplies for one of the largest Ukraine drives. Solent Freight Services had partnered with community groups: Ozone Park Residents Block Association, Kiwanis International of Woodhaven and Ozone Park, Lions Club International of Ozone Park, Woodhaven and Howard Beach, Living Word Christian Fellowship and the Office of Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato to gather much needed supplies and organize a collection for Ukraine.
During the previous week, residents of the Rockaway Peninsula, Broad Channel, Ozone Park and Howard Beach dropped off supplies at the Office of Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato. In addition, New York State Attorney General Letitia James personally worked with the Assemblywoman and the Queens County Clerk Audrey I. Pheffer to gather much needed baby supplies and feminine hygiene supplies.
Last Saturday, all of those donations were dropped off at Living World Church where remarkable volunteers from the community were busy organizing and packaging the supplies that would be sent to Ukrainian families in need. The Assemblywoman arrived with two fully packed cars with goods that had been donated by the community. “Our office was filled from top to bottom with donations and purchases from the amazing people in this district. This is what we do - we step up,” said Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato. Throughout the day rows and rows of cars could be seen lining the street with people jumping out to drop off their donations. In the end, tractor trailers were stuffed with the generous donations and even required the use of several other cars to carry the extra supplies.
“When you ask what makes a community, it’s this. Joining forces with these groups just shows that no matter who you are, where you are, or what you need, this community will find a way to help you,” Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato said.
