Pheffer Amato Commemorates Memorial Day & Leads Broad Channel Memorial Day Parade
South Queens, NY – Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-South Queens) took to the streets all weekend to march with the veterans and families of service men and women of the 23rd Assembly District. The Assemblywoman marched and cheered in several parades, and even led the Broad Channel delegation up Cross Bay Boulevard in the midday sun.
Parades throughout the 23rd Assembly District ranged from Howard Beach, to Broad Channel and down to the Rockaway Peninsula. Each parade had its own flare, with Broad Channel having a special flag salute, Howard Beach having the route stop at several churches to honor those from the community lost at different wars, and the Rockaway Peninsula which commemorated the 100th Anniversary of its parade. “This is a community that respects its veterans, who honors those who lost their lives protecting this country and ensures that their memories are not forgotten. Of course, the great work of the local American Legion, VFW, the members of the volunteer fire departments, the Kiwanis groups, Women’s Auxiliary and all those who helped organize these parades deserve praise and a big thanks,” said Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato.
The hot weather and a grateful community ensured all of the parades were a great success with people coming out and honoring our fallen heroes and veterans. “We can never repay the debt of gratitude we owe our veterans, and we must honor the lives lost who fought for our freedom. This is one way we can pay tribute to their memories, but also show their families that we will never forget their sacrifices, we thank them and are forever grateful,” said the Assemblywoman.
