Rockaway Point Fire Department Shows Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato New Truck She Helped Fund
South Queens, NY – New York State Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-South Queens) visited the Rockaway Point Volunteer Fire Department to see the brand-new fire truck, Truck 4. The fire truck was procured through funding allocated by the Assemblywoman. To thank her and commemorate her dedication to the people of Breezy Point, the fire truck bears a placard with her name, along with Senator Addabboo, on the back.
The Assemblywoman is a fierce advocate for volunteer fire departments and has been responsible for several purchases and improvements to fire houses throughout the community. “I believe in the Vollies. I think they represent the best of a community as they selflessly give themselves to help others – they’re heroes. Whatever they need, I will fight for and work to achieve,” said the Assemblywoman. During the past year Pheffer Amato was also thanked by volunteer firefighters throughout New York State, and received phone calls and gratitude from residents of Breezy Point, after she helped kill a piece of legislation that would have taken funding away from a facility to help retired volunteer firefighters. Several people at the firehouse also thanked her during her visit.
Chief James Morton explained how this one volunteer fire department answered over 500 calls last year, and how this new truck will truly help the community. “Through this funding by Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato we were able to buy a new fire truck that can respond to emergencies and be a lifeline to those in distress. The Assemblywoman knows the work of volunteer firefighters and is a friend to all those who serve. It’s clear she’s got our back,” said Chief Morton of the Rockaway Point Volunteer Fire Department.
