Pheffer Amato Secures 2nd Rockaway-Based Hearing for Community on Future of LIPA/PSEG
South Queens, NY – New York State Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-South Queens) has secured a second hearing for all Rockaway Peninsula residents to testify before the Legislative Commission on the Future of the Long Island Power Authority. LIPA, who works with PSEG, is the electrical provider for Long Island and the Rockaway Peninsula. “Too often our community is overlooked and forgotten, but I have secured us a seat at the table and hope all of you will pull up a chair. This is our chance to stand up and make our voices heard and give our input on LIPA and PSEG,” said Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato. The hearing will be held at the Rockaway YMCA, starting at 10am, on Monday, September 18.
The public is encouraged to attend and express their experiences with LIPA and PSEG. “The Commission wants to hear from everyone,” said Pheffer Amato. The goal of the hearing is to gather testimony from the public which will help the Commission craft reforms that LIPA, and its subsidies like PSEG, would respond to in the areas of transparency, overall operations, electrical rates, and storm response. This will also help decide the future of LIPA and PSEG. “By hearing from residents, community civic groups, small business owners, and everyone who is a customer of LIPA and PSEG, we can incorporate their ideas towards making the needed changes to get us the electrical provider we deserve,” said Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato.
This will be the second time residents of the Rockaway Peninsula can testify before the Commission as Pheffer Amato had previously arranged for a hearing in Rockaway in December of 2022 where they took testimony for several hours.
