South Queens, NY – New York State Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato hosted the first of several paper shredding events last Saturday at St. Camillus Church with the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY). Calls for paper shredding events are one of the most sought after requests the Assemblywoman’s Office gets. Throughout the morning, over 100 residents from the Rockaway Peninsula and Broad Channel brought bags, shopping carts, and boxes of paper. Despite the rain, people continued to come from 9am through 12pm, while the competition to see who would bring the most was won by a woman who brought 13 shopping bags worth of paper.

“My office gets requests for this event all year long because people want to make sure paper and documents with their personal information is properly destroyed. Your security and comfort are important to me, which is why I’m happy to bring this type of vital service to our community,” said Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato.

Several of the DSNY workers at the event also made a point to thank Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato for fixing Tier 6.The Assemblywoman changed the calculator of a pension from the existing 5-year final average, to now being calculated from the ‘highest 3 consecutive years’ to determine a person’s pension. This has been heavily praised by labor groups and unions because it will ensure all Tier 6 employees will get more money in their pension when they retire.

Pheffer Amato’s next paper shredding event will be on August 3rd in Howard Beach.
