Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato to Host Mobile Breast Cancer Screening Clinic in Honor of Friend “Mrs. Elaine” Freeburg
On Friday, March 24, 2017 from 9:00AM to 4:30PM at 112-20 Beach Channel Drive in Rockaway Park, Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato will host a free, mobile breast cancer screening clinic in honor of her late friend, Elaine Freeburg. Freeburg, a local dance instructor and studio owner known universally as “Mrs. Elaine,” died of sudden-onset breast cancer. The screening is being held outside the location of Mrs. Elaine’s dance studio.
“My hope is that, by providing a means for women to detect breast cancer early, we can prevent as many tragedies as possible. Dedicating this screening is my own small way of helping honor the legacy of a selfless, beloved member of our community, who was taken way too soon. This is a disease that can usually be detected early, and when it’s detected, the outcomes are better,” said Pheffer Amato. “I encourage as many women as possible to come out on March 24th to get screened. It’s free, and it’s a great way to ensure your health!”
The mobile screening day, which is being provided free of charge by the American Italian Cancer Foundation (please go to their Web site for more information), requires 25 participants to sign up by two weeks from today, Friday, March 3rd, in order to proceed.
The qualifications are:
- Women aged 40 and over with health insurance
- Women aged 50 and over, with or without health insurance
- Currently living in New York City
- No mammograms over the past 12 months
There are no copays or deductibles for use of the clinic.
To sign up, participants should call: 718-945-9550, Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato’s office, or 877-628-9090, the American Italian Cancer Foundation.
