Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-Rockaway Beach) was honored to be selected as a National Early Learning Fellow by the National Conference of State Legislatures (www.ncsl.org), a national, bi-partisan organization bringing together legislators from all fifty states for in-depth study and advocacy on active policy issues. Pheffer Amato was recently appointed Chair of the Child Safety Committee of the New York State Assembly, which, combined with her experience as a mother, Parent Association President and school paraprofessional, made her a strong candidate for selection for the prestigious Fellowship.

“It is my absolute privilege to work with the NCSL on this program,” said Pheffer Amato. “My goal is to serve my constituents as well as I can, and being immersed in this program will help hugely in that effort. I’m hoping to use what I learn to improve life and outcomes for all children across New York State, and by extension, to improve the future for all New Yorkers.”

Pheffer Amato’s selection as one of several dozen Early Learning Fellows places her in a select group from across the country that will share expertise, study best practices, and work to achieve far-reaching results on issues related to school readiness, family support, literacy, STEM, and other facets of early childhood education. She left for Omaha, Nebraska this past Sunday, June 25th, for the first of several three-day information-sharing and training conferences that are conducted as part of the 2017 Fellowship. She is scheduled to return on Tuesday, June 27th.
