“Any American elected official would be remiss to ignore Charlottesville. The ugly display of hate Friday and Saturday cuts to the core of who we are as a society. South Queens is a diverse and loving community, and we unite to condemn hate and violence. The sickness in our stomachs when we saw a young man run over a crowd and kill a 23-year-old young woman is nothing any of us will soon forget.

“We need to work every day to build the America we know and love, where people of every background have a place and racist violence is completely unacceptable. What we witnessed in Charlottesville is domestic terror, it is un-American, and we need to say clearly, from each of our communities, that it will not stand.”
