This past Friday, October 6th, Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-Broad Channel) helped announce full funding to restore Sunset Cove in Broad Channel, along with the NYC Parks Department, Dan Mundy, Jr. (the head of the local Eco-Watchers environmental group), Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, City Council Member Eric Ulrich, and the Office of the Mayor. The funding was announced as completed after $7 million was secured from the Mayor’s office. Pheffer Amato applauded the “true team effort” it took to reach the point of full funding, with advocacy and generosity by many different actors “integral to securing this exciting piece of our natural history – and our natural resources’ future.”

“This couldn’t be a more exciting project,” Pheffer Amato said. “It’s a patch of protected wildlife, but also a boardwalk, a research center, a place for students to go learn about our natural environment, and more. What makes Sunset Cove a truly special project is that, while preserving and protecting our Bay, and integrating an appreciation of everything it offers into our community, it will also help foster the next generation of environmentalists. Thanks to Dan Mundy Jr. and the Eco-Watchers, the Mayor’s office, Borough President Katz, Council Member Ulrich, the Parks Department, Senator Joe Addabbo, the National Park Service, and everyone else who is helping create this unique local resource!”
