After Push from Pheffer Amato, MTA Approves Bus Stop
Far Rockaway, Queens- In response to Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato’s (D-Far Rockaway) request for an additional Q113 bus stop on Central Avenue between Virginia Street and Sage Street in Far Rockaway to help commuters, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has agreed to install a bus stop at this location.
For several years, residents have filed complaints with the MTA and 311 regarding the absence of a Q113 bus stop at this location. Previously, residents would have the board the Q113 bus at Cornaga and Rose Street which was a fifteen to twenty minute walk from parts of Far Rockaway. By adding this extra stop, it shortens the distance between stops along the Q113 route, and allows easier transit opportunities for both elderly and disabled bus riders.
“MTA has listened to the concerns of our community and decided to take the necessary corrective actions,” said Pheffer Amato. “Here in South Queens, especially Far Rockaway transportation is challenging, and by installing this new bus stop will ease the access for many constituents.”
“Before the addition of the Q113 Limited bus stop, I had to walk between 15 and 20 minutes just to access the bus, on top of the amount of time it would take me to get to where I’m going,” said, Naftali Fasten a Far Rockaway Resident. “Now, I can take back that time, live my life and conduct my daily business with one less obstacle. Thank you Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato for listening to your constituents, and working on this issue for me.”
