Pheffer Amato, Addabbo Extend Breezy Work Permits
Albany, New York On Monday, a two-year extension to Chapter 100 of the Laws of 2013, sponsored by Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-Breezy Point), was unanimously passed by the New York State Assembly. Chapter 100 provides exemptions for Breezy Point work permits for resiliency and recovery in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. The companion extension bill had been passed on June 5th and is sponsored by Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. (D-Breezy Point).
Breezy Point residents are still not home due to Hurricane Sandy. Considering the delays that thousands of our residents have been subjected to under Build It Back, Rapid Repair and other programs at the City level, it was so urgent that we give our residents more time to rebuild with some relief from the bureaucracy, said Pheffer Amato. I appreciate the partnership of Senator Addabbo, and my colleagues in both houses for understanding that my neighbors deserve to live in structurally sound homes and that that they deserve every chance to rebuild. This vote will make a huge difference for Breezy Point families, seniors, laborers and the overall community.
Homeowners in Breezy Point, Rockaway Point and Roxbury are still trying to recover from the damage of super storm Sandy, Denise Lopresti Neibel, Assistant General Manager of the Breezy Point Cooperative, Inc., said. The joint efforts of Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato and Senator Addabbo to expedite the rebuilding process are greatly appreciated and will help get families back home.
In 2017 an identical two-year extension bill was passed by Pheffer Amato and Addabbo, A. 4068.
