Pheffer Amato Attends Rally at JFK Airport
Jamaica, Queens This past Wednesday, Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-Rockaway), attended a rally at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) hosted by 32BJ, Unite Here, and RWDSU Local 1102. The rally was organized to support the passage of the Healthy Terminals Act into law. The act passed the Assembly and Senate in late July and ensures that airport workers are paid fair wages and have access to certain healthcare benefits. In attendance were local community leaders and elected officials who also supported the legislation. Pheffer Amato, a staunch advocate for workers rights, has been outspoken of her approval of the legislation and spoke to the crowd at the rally.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic many of my constituents have been employed as airport workers and it is vital that they receive the same protections as every other front-line worker and that includes fair compensation and access to healthcare. I am confident that this legislation will ensure equity for these workers, Pheffer Amato said. I am proud to have attended the rally with my colleagues and commend the efforts of 32BJ, Unite Here, and RWDSU Local 1102.
The bill has been sent to the Governor for signature.
